Some older guides and the in-game Help still say you keep your inventory. The Tempered Update changes Pack goods to death drops. Store your gathering haul before a risky trip.

Set a useful rest point

Stand near a Campfire or Camp and press Z. Wait for the rest-point confirmation. After the 20-second respawn delay, you return to your saved rest location.

If the structure supporting your rest point is gone, the fallback is your starting location. Build somewhere you can find again and keep the structure maintained.

Recover in the right order

  1. Check the route. Use the map and the location of your last expedition.
  2. Prepare enough to survive. Replace food and check the condition of your tools before returning to the same danger.
  3. Prioritize the dropped goods. They expire after 20 minutes and anyone can take them.
  4. Return valuables to storage. Split future gathering trips into smaller loads if the area is dangerous.

Town land is not universal protection

Town protection applies to its members. Walking into another town does not automatically protect a visitor from PvP. Joining a town and simply passing through its plots are different things.

For supplies at home, accessible basic chests can be opened by other players. Use sensible building access and consider a Metal Chest for owner-restricted storage. See building and storage.
